On Sunday, April 17, 2016, the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother held an Open House at their convent at SSM Franciscan Courts, 815 S. Westhaven Drive in Oshkosh.
The public was invited to tour the convent, which serves as the retirement home for the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother (SSM). Tours included the common areas, the chapel, windows depicting historical photos and events of significance in SSM history, and the heritage room, which features items from the community’s past, including habits, statues, medals, cinctures, books, musical instruments and other relics from throughout the years since the Congregation was founded in 1883.
Attendees also met some of the local Sisters who actively minister in the Oshkosh area, along with many of the retired Sisters who live at SSM Franciscan Courts. Ministry boards including bios and photos were on display of Sisters who live and minister out of the area.
SSM also offered a public prayer request book located adjacent to its chapel, where attendees could write in their personal prayer requests. The Sisters who reside at SSM Franciscan Courts read the prayer book daily and pray for all requests that are included.
In addition, a quilt and craft sale was held, featuring items handmade by the Sisters, with all proceeds going to benefit the SSM missions. More than $800 was raised at the sale!
Thank you to everyone who put our Open House event together and all those who attended! It was a wonderful, joyful day!
